Simplified definition

A condition in which a person has difficulty speaking or understanding other people due to damage in the parts of the brain that are responsible for language and understanding.

  • There are different types of aphasia according to which area of the brain is affected:
    Broca’s area and Wernicke area are the two parts of the brain that work together to make us speak.
  • They are also the most commonly affected areas.
