To increase the critical mass of researchers engaged in the fight against neurocognitive diseases, it is imperative to train students until they obtain a university doctorate. In France, the university doctorate (PhD) should last 3 years. However, a 4th year may be necessary to achieve the planned objectives, in particular the progress of the research project. The Fondation Alzheimer supports students in carrying out their doctoral work by offering a 4th year funding. This funding allows the finalization of the doctorate undertaken during the previous 3 years.
/ Applicant profile
- Candidates in his/her 3rd year of PhD,
- AND registered in a French university,
- AND working in either a research laboratory or clinical unit in the public sector in France,
- AND All scientific disciplines are eligible, including biology, imaging, genetics, chemistry, medicine, clinical researchScientific study that often includes healthy volunteers or patients, and that is conducted to learn more about a particular disease or condition,…, public health, economy, sociology, ethics, etc.,
- AND No nationality requirement (valid residence permit).
/ Research projet
Research contribution should be in the fields of Alzheimer’s disease, Lewy body dementia, Parkinson dementia, frontotemporal dementia, corticobasal syndrome, progressive supranuclear palsy and primary progressive aphasiaA disease that affects parts of the brain that are responsible for language, thus causing difficulties in speaking that intensify with the… (all types). Considering the importance of sex/gender within these fields, such factor should be assessed while addressing the main scientific question.The Fondation Alzheimer encourages strongly open science and patient and public involvement in research.
/ Budget
The funding covers the doctoral student’s gross monthly salary of €3,600, including employer payroll charges. It also includes up to €2,000 in travel and mission expenses, where necessary and upon request. The fellowship may last from 3 to 12 months.

The selection by the Scientific Advisory Board of Fondation Alzheimer is based on the applicant career, the state of play of his/her scientific production for the doctorate, as well as the statement of need.
The Board reserves its right not to grant funds if applications do not meet the selection criteria.
